Do you while away time daydreaming about becoming the next leader of the free world or imagining everyone applauding as you take to the stage the globe’s biggest rock star? Well, apparently you could be doing yourself a favour, because giving our brains time to float away is actually good for us.
That’s because some of our best ideas and thoughts arrive to us when our minds are resting.
So the next time you catch yourself gazing out of the window or regressing to childhood memory when you’re supposed to be working, you might find inspiration just suddenly comes to you. Experts have explained that this happens because daydreaming helps us to engage the right side of our brains – the part that is intuitive and creative.
It is also the home of our emotional intelligence as opposed to our left side, which is all about strategic planning, critical thinking and logic. Daydreaming helps us to access where our memories are stored, and this in turn could become an advantage by seeing things more clearly and relieving stress.
Allowing ourselves to bring our right brain into play also means we can remain young at heart, as our creative side allows us to be more fun and relaxed, and takes us back to when we were children, when we were permanently in a state of ‘right mindedness’.
The experts believe that spending more time resting our minds and daydreaming will also help us to look younger. By reliving your youth and thinking about a time when you were healthier, younger and more energetic will make you feel more relaxed, thus making your face more youthful.
It sounds easier than expensive face creams anyway, so I am willing to give it a go!
