“Have you ever seen a weasel riding a woodpecker?”
– if this question was asked a week ago you’d think the person doing the asking was bonkers, but thanks to a wonderful image which has taken the internet by storm this week, it seems not such a silly question after all. The picture of a baby weasel riding on the back of a very surprised-looking green woodpecker was not only tweeted and retweeted a gazillion times, but several internet memes of the image have also been doing the rounds, much to the amusement of social media users. Images of Miley Cyrus, President Putin, John Travolta and – the internet sensation of the week before – #TheDress have been superimposed onto the back of the weasel to create super-celebrity-mammal-bird madness.
And they are not the only flying celebs to have created headlines this week – not, I’m not talking about Madonna’s flying fall from the stage at the Brits – but Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones-esque crash landing onto a golf course while flying his 1940s vintage plane.
Speculation that the silver fox landed on the green after his engine failed in order to avoid areas where there might be a lot of people has further galvanised Ford’s reputation as a caring action hero. And, Indy fans will be pleased to know, while he emerged bloodied and battered from the event, the superstar seems to be on the mend already.
The only thing is these things usually come in threes, so what’s going to be next? Keep your eyes out for One Direction road testing Marty McFly-style hoverboards, Boris Johnson skydiving from the top of Westminster Palace and Prince William swooping down in his helicopter to save a small puppy stuck up a tree. Or maybe not…
