The hearts and minds of the internet are a-flutter following the discovery of man’s-man and film-star-of-the-moment Tom Hardy’s MySpace profile.
Let this be a warning to you kids: when your mums, dads and teachers go on about how what you put on your social media profile could one day be used against you, this is what they meant.
Poor old Tom Hardy. He’s spent a decent amount of recent time building an impressive name for himself in the mean, moody and downright mysterious man stakes. And until this week, nobody (except maybe his mum and his friends in the 1990s) knew anything different. I mean, check him out in The Dark Knight Rises where he plays deep-voiced, terrifying Bane, then see him in Locke, where he plays deep-voiced Welsh adulterer Ivan, then, if you can cope with all this manliness, watch him in Mad Max: Fury Road, where he plays deep-voiced, monosyllabic, hunky Max – you get the idea. As well as being worshipped by many for being the epitome of all that is cool he also seems to be adored for being, well, very nice to look at and quite mean and moody.
Now, check out his MySpace page. OK, you can’t see the real thing as it’s been taken down after too many people checked it out (and spread the treasure found there across the internet), but if you Google ‘Tom Hardy Myspace’ you’ll find what I’m talking about.
There he is, in all his glory, wearing nothing but a pair of pants he probably got in his Christmas stocking, a baseball cap and a (is it false? Please let it be false) moustache.
Scroll down and you might find the one where he is posing in a door frame wearing his granddad’s Y-fronts, or the one where he appears to be posing with a turkey (yes, a turkey) wrapped in foil, posted apparently along with the caption ‘I’m cooking a turkey, yo’.
Tom, I suspect, will cope with this humiliation just fine – being a massively in-demand A-lister has its benefits – he’ll probably just take a bath in all of his hard earned cash and think of the days when all he could afford to wear was someone else’s pants.
But for us mere mortals, the lesson is hard: now go and check your social media and give it a little spring clean, just to be sure.
