Facebook has said that the number of people using the site every month is now more than one billion people.
Facebook surpasses one billion users
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced the passing of this milestone on US television.
It was said that the billion users were responsible for 1.13 trillion ‘likes’, a total of 219 billion photos and 17 billion location check-ins.
Since launching in 2004, Facebook has, if you believe the figures, helped a billion people to connect. Now it can be argued that all those ‘users’ are not actually active, individual users, but it’s still an impressive figure and means Facebook is a channel and platform that cannot be ignored.
If you are a business owner Facebook is a great way to interact with people and spread the word about your business. If a friend of mine likes or shares something on Facebook I am more likely to take notice than if I simply see an advert somewhere. I may not buy at that exact moment, but I will take note of the like or share and it could well influence a future purchase. I may also like or share the same thing too. It’s also very quick and easy to place adverts on Facebook, which can target specific groups and the cost of which can be controlled to your budget.
I only ever joined Facebook as I wanted to check it out as my two daughters joined and I felt it was the responsible thing to do. I now enjoy sharing news and photos with friends and family, some overseas. Facebook is a useful addition to my life.
