It’s fantastic to feel the excitement of space travel once again as the UK’s Tim Peake begins his stint on the International Space Station.

Who could have failed to be caught up in the romance of it all this week as the rocket launch was shown live on television?

A whole new generation of children will now want to be astronauts when they grow up with such a fantastic role model to aspire to.

It really is fascinating and quite mind blowing that we can follow Tim Peake’s journey by reading tweets from the man himself whilst he is on the ISS.

His latest tweet from the space station read: “View of our beautiful planet Earth from space is simply stunning – and ‘space’ is so intimidatingly black…I’m captivated by it!”

Footage of the UK’s first official astronaut will now be forever in the history books, alongside those famous images of the first moon landing and various space shuttle launches.

Tim Peake’s role on the space station will be to conduct various scientific experiments as well as to inspire a new generation of young people to get involved in science.

No offence to all those celebrities out there – most of whom provide good role models – but it is refreshing for young people today to have a different kind of ‘celebrity’ to look up to for a change.

Good luck Tim Peake and we hope you enjoy the next six months as much as we will enjoy following your adventure from down here on Earth.
