NASA have recently announced the news that has got many people talking; our zodiac signs have changed.
This means a whopping 86% of us will most likely have a new zodiac sign. A new zodiac sign has also been recognised, Ophiuchus, although there are claims it was discovered when the other signs were, however was ignored in favour of the 12 signs we are all familiar with.
Now NASA haven’t suddenly changed their scientific mission and state on their website (direct link ‘website’ to http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/starfinder2/en/) that astrology is NOT science and there is no current proof that astrology can be used to predict the future or describe the personality of people based on their birth date.
They have however noted that since the zodiac signs were discovered over 3,000 years ago by the Babylonians, the position of the constellations has shifted, due to shift in the Earth’s axis (North Pole).
NASA adds this detailed explanation to help explain the confusion;
“Now Mimi’s August 4 birthday would mean she was born “under the sign” of Cancer (one constellation “earlier”), not Leo.
The constellations are different sizes and shapes, so the Sun spends different lengths of time lined up with each one. The line from Earth through the Sun points to Virgo for 45 days, but it points to Scorpius for only 7 days. To make a tidy match with their 12-month calendar, the Babylonians ignored the fact that the Sun actually moves through 13 constellations, not 12. Then they assigned each of those 12 constellations equal amounts of time. Besides the 12 familiar constellations of the zodiac, the Sun is also aligned with Ophiuchus for about 18 days each year.” (NASA, 2016).
