It’s lovely to read today’s news articles on the successful separation of conjoined twins at London’s Great Ormond Street Hospital. The identical twins, Rosie and Ruby Formosa, had an emergency operation to separate them.
Their mother, Angela Formosa, has described her joy, saying that despite having been told that the survival chances were low, the twin sisters are now doing well and are smiling “bubbly babies”.
The identical twins were born joined at the abdomen and shared part of the intestine. Now 12 weeks old, they had an operation on July 27th, the day after they were born.
Their mother said that she and her husband, taxi driver Daniel, were “happy and relieved” that the girls were home.
“They are really well, they are putting on weight,” she said, adding: “They are normal bubbly babies who are starting to smile and cry when they want something.”
It’s so great to hear stories like this and really brightens your day. Thank goodness we have people and facilities able to perform such operations. Great Ormond Street is one of the most experienced centres in the world for the treatment of conjoined twins.
