From self-driving cars to super fast mobile broadband, 2013 looks like it’s going to be a big year for technology.
At the forefront of the new technological developments is, of course, Google, which has been working on self-driving cars and augmented reality products which could be available for consumers this year.
In May 2012, Nevada was the first place in the world to licence self-driving cars and now California has passed legislation so that human-free cars can be legally driven on its roads. It might not be too long before self-driving cars are outselling vehicles that need human drivers; I can’t decide whether I find the prospect of these cars amazing or a bit terrifying!
Google has also been working on a successor to smart phones in its “augmented reality” division and has developed Google Glass; glasses which create an augmented view of the world. They will overlay information on your field of view but with Microsoft and Apple working on similar products Google could have some competition in the augmented reality market over the coming year.
Other technological advancements we can look forward to in 2013 include the spread of superfast mobile broadband in Europe and flexible phone screens. All in all it looks like 2013 is shaping up to be a very exciting year in technology.
