Now I know what I have been doing wrong with my house plants all these years, I have been playing them the wrong music.
A story in The Independent this week explained how gardening expert Chris Beardshaw believes blasting your blooms with heavy metal will make them grow bigger.
He says he played Black Sabbath to a greenhouse full of plants and the results were outstanding. He also played Cliff Richard to another greenhouse of plants and claims they all died.
He told the newspaper “We set up four glasshouses with different sorts of music in to see what happened to the plants.
“The one that was grown with classical music grew slightly shorter because of the soundwaves bombarding them and were slightly more floriferous and there was slightly less pest and disease.
“And the ones with Black Sabbath – great big, thumping noise, rowdy music – they were the shortest, but they had the best flowers and the best resistance to pest and disease.
“The alstroemerias in the Cliff Richard house all died. Sabotage was suspected but we couldn’t prove it.”
My daughters are obsessed with One Direction at the moment so I fear for my house plants and the potted basil in my kitchen.
My salad and tomato growing efforts failed miserably last year, so I wonder if the neighbours will mind Black Sabbath blasting out in my garden all summer if I promise them a free lettuce at the end.
