Hardly anyone sends a postcard any more, with most travellers choosing to use Facebook and Skype to contact their family and friends when they are abroad, according to a new report.
The Telegraph reported this week on the survey, which was carried out by flight comparison website Skyscanner.
A total of 1,200 people were questioned and just six per cent said they would still choose to send a postcard from holiday instead of using technology to send their messages.
The study also found that two-thirds of us like to keep logging onto the internet to keep in touch with emails and other news while we are away. It also showed that 89% of us choose our holiday online rather than from a travel agent’s brochure.
A spokeswoman for Skyscanner told The Telegraph: “The internet has not only changed the way we communicate on holiday but also how we find inspiration to make our holiday choice.
“Gone are the days of trawling through endless travel agent brochures, these days most of us surf the net or turn to our favourite newspaper.”
I can personally understand why postcards have been so easily disregarded – after all, they nearly always arrive at their destination after you have returned home from your holiday.
I still like to buy them though, to keep as a souvenir.
