Do you think you are paid too much?

Now from time to time…

…we’ve all grumbled that we don’t get paid enough at our jobs, from stingy bosses to customers who don’t tip, but have you ever complained that you’re being paid too much? Well IT worker Sandeep Jia did exactly that and eventually resigned after his request for a pay cut was ignored by his bosses.

Jia lives in Bangalore, India and said that his wage of £450 per month was making him feel guilty as so many others in the country live in poverty. India is one of the most heavily populated countries in the world and is estimated to be home to just under a third of the world’s poor with almost 70% of its population being paid a mere $2 a day.

Jia says that the guilt was affecting his state of mind stating: “I was getting depressed, and in the end I decided to solve the problem by leaving and looking for a different job”. He also claims that he asked his bosses for a cut a number of times but was ignored, leaving him no choice but to resign.

According to psychologists he might not be alone in his feelings of guilt. The huge gap between India’s highest earners and its poorest people is causing growing levels of guilt in its upper echelons.

With Christmas rapidly approaching you’d be hard pressed to find many people in the UK demanding a pay cut, especially if they were only making £450 a month! Perhaps we could all learn a lesson from Sandeep, next time we feel like moaning because our pay packet is a little light  remember that someone, somewhere has it a whole lot worse.

You would have thought he could have just donated some of his wage to charity if he was that bothered though eh?
