Time for some teddy pride

It’s okay to love your teddy bear!

A new survey by furniture store Ikea has revealed just how much the British people love their teddies, and not just when they are children!

Apparently there are a staggering 2.5million British teddy bears with social media accounts, tweeting away to their little furry heart’s content.

I’ve read plenty of statistics about the use of social media, but this really is the most heart-warming. It is great to know that all those treasured childhood soft toys are not just being left to rot away in attics all over the country.

The survey also discovered that nearly half of UK adults still take their soft toys with them abroad and the average British teddy will travel 10,386,73 miles.

Ikea UK’s Carol McSeveney told the Daily Mail: “It’s clear that we are a nation of big kids who love our soft-toys; taking them everywhere we go, with over half of us still clinging on to them well into adulthood.”

The company is using our nation’s love of teddies to positive effect and has launched a campaign to raise money for UNICEF and Save the Children, donating money to the charities for every soft toy bought in its stores.

October 11 is also apparently Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day!

It’s not entirely obvious who created this day, but it appears to have been going for a few years now and there are plenty of cute pictures of teddy bears at the office to prove it!

So come on, grab that moth-eaten, many times repaired, smelly and extremely loved teddy from the back of the wardrobe and love it with pride – you know you want to!
