Ryder Cup magic

It was sheer television magic that only real life could deliver: I am talking about the fabulous performance of the whole European team in the Ryder Cup 2012 to take a miraculous victory over the United States.

A victory in the name of golfing great Seve Ballesteros had everyone in tears: on the screen and in front of it.  It was a win that looked so far out of reach and yet the comeback was stupendous.  It was nail-biting stuff, but the victory was truly remarkable.

There was drama aplenty during the final day’s play, including a near-disqualification for Rory McIlroy when he came close to missing his start time.  This would have handed a point and most probably the trophy back to the United States.

It was better viewing than any of the manufactured rubbish that now fills our television screens for much of the time.  There was real drama and real emotion.

It was a joy to watch and reminded us once again of what a glorious summer of sport we have had.

It was wonderful to watch European captain Jose Maria Olazabel celebrate the victory: it was clear to see what it meant to him.  Seve will be smiling, I am sure.
