2016 in review – what a year that was!

So we are approaching the end of 2016 – and what a year it has been!

There is no doubt that 2016 will go down as one of the most tumultuous years on record given the magnitude of some of the events that took place in 2016.

The world is a very different place today than it was 12 months ago, no matter which side of any debate you fall on.

The biggest event to have affected people in Britain is of course Brexit. The nation was stunned when the results came in that 51.9% of voters voted to leave the European Union, which prompted David Cameron to resign as Prime Minister.

We will not know the true magnitude of this decision for many years, but it is certainly something that is going to affect each and every one of us at some point in the future. Whether that is for good or for bad, time will tell.

Donald Trump was also voted in as President of the United States – another vote which totally shocked the world. After a bitter election campaign between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the billionaire businessman came out on top, and 2017 will certainly be an interesting year with the Republican in charge.

There has also been a spate of celebrity deaths which are a real loss for a multitude of industries. David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Terry Wogan, Paul Daniels and Victoria Wood are just a few out of many who have passed away this year.

England’s football team had a shocker in Euro 2016 as well, but Wales reached the semi-final, and from a sporting perspective it has been a fantastic year.

Team GB’s unbelievable sportspeople smashed the record for biggest medal haul ever from an Olympics, Leicester City improbably won the Premier League, and Andy Murray won Wimbledon and surged his way to World Number One in the tennis.

Yep – it’s been a year that many of us won’t forget in a hurry, although some people will want to.
