A new study, commissioned by Hotpoint, has revealed the top ten most hated foods for Brits are as follows:
- Snails
- Tripe
- Oysters
- Squid
- Anchovies
- Liver
- Cockles
- Kidneys
- Olives
- Black pudding
Even though we have some of the best restaurants in the world in Britain, we are still prone to avoiding delicacies and exotic food and sticking to what we know.
I don’t think I’ve ever tried snails, but I like to think that I would be adventurous enough to give them a go. I absolutely love squid and olives so I feel very continental and much more open minded than my fussy compatriots.
I don’t think that I’m a fussy eater but there are certain things that I just cannot stand and the biggest food issue for me is anything to do with bananas, I absolutely hate them. I have no idea when it started or why but I hate everything about them: the smell, the texture and the taste. On the occasions when I have accidentally eaten banana by accident my reactions have been completely over the top and ridiculous but I just cannot abide them.
Although I have just confessed to my irrational banana problem, I am normally pretty easy going about food and there is nothing worse than a fussy eater. I once went to stay with my friend for a couple of weeks and offered to cook him dinner and he replied that he would “send me his dietary information,” I thought he was joking until an email appeared in my inbox detailing everything he would and wouldn’t eat. The list included quotes such as: “I DO NOT EAT ANY SEAFOOD (though prawn crackers are ok)”, “as a rule I don’t like anything that’s not been cooked” and has a subheading called “Sauce and General Hate Issues”. With people like him, I am not surprised that us Brits are known as fussy eaters, he would make anyone look adventurous!
