Football fixtures released

The release of the football fixtures is always a great day for any football fan.

If you go to every game, it spells out exactly where you are going to be for the next 9-10 months of your life.

You can find out when you will be playing your nearest rivals and who you will be playing on the key dates in the season, such as Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, Easter and on the first and last day of the season.

It is also always interesting to find out when your midweek games are going to be, as you know you’ll be in for a late night when that match takes place.

In the Championship, Aston Villa v Hull City promises to be a great opening fixture, with Steve Bruce now in charge of the former having previously been boss at the latter.

Garry Monk is another new man in charge at Middlesbrough, and he will be tasked with a trip to Wolves on day one of the new season. He will play his former club Leeds United on November 18.

Recently relegated Sunderland entertain Derby County.

The Sheffield derby is always an interesting affair, with both sets of fans not sparing much affection for each other, and those two will clash at Hillsborough on September 23 and at Bramall Lane on January 13.

The last time the two teams were in the same division was in the 2011-12 season, so after six seasons without a derby, this one will be feisty.

Middlesbrough play Sunderland in the Tees-Wear derby on November 4 at the Riverside and February 24 on the Stadium of Light, and the Birmingham derby between Aston Villa and Birmingham City is on October 28 and February 10.

Norwich v Ipswich and Derby v Nottingham Forest games are also very interesting. In terms of the Midlands clashes, the emergence of Burton Albion over the past few years throws them into the mix in terms of derbies as well.

It all provides a mouth-watering prospect as football fans patiently wait for the new season to start again
