It’s the end of January, willpower is so yesterday

Fail Friday has been invented as the day we are most likely to give up on our New Year’s Resolutions.

The date of January 24 is when most of us will apparently run out of willpower and head for the chocolate, the alcohol or whatever else we have tried to give up.

The survey was carried out by shopping website FreeDeliveryLand.co.uk, which also revealed the depressing news that only one in three of us will keep our New Year promises for the rest of the year.

I say depressing, but if I search deep within my own psyche, I am pretty sure I never really intended to last the whole year. We all know New Year’s Resolutions aren’t for keeps don’t we?

I mean, imagine if they actually worked; we’d all be teetotal, superfit, thin and incredibly healthy.

We know it follows the same old pattern every year: vow to never drink again, go out for few jogs (maybe even buy some fancy new trainers) read articles about the best way to stick to your resolution, announce to everyone that your body is a temple and then quietly slip back into your old ways and hope nobody will notice.

But we still go through the ceremony of making our annual resolutions, for the simple reason that they help us feel better about ourselves at the beginning of the year, when we have over indulged and need to have a burst of positivity to get us through the winter.

Well, it’s worked, I feel much better now; where’s that bottle of wine?
