There are plenty of tips out there on how to keep spiders out of your home, but do any of them really work?
My favourite is the advice I had recently from a friend. He claimed that if you resist the temptation to kill or remove spiders from your home, you will end up with just one spider in your entire house. This is because spiders are territorial and the strongest spider will eventually kill all the rest.
I have found no expert information online to either confirm or deny this, but I imagine the idea of having one (presumably quite big) powerful spider living happily in your home is not a particularly welcome prospect for any arachnophobes!
The other problem with this solution as well, of course, is the period of time you may have to wait while the alpha spider works his way around the house killing all the others.
Conkers are another popular suggestion and whilst there is no proof that this actually works either, I am sure mine is not the only home to have these scattered around the dark corners of my rooms at this time of year – just in case there is some truth in this method.
The internet is full of fun and interesting ideas on how to keep spiders at bay during the autumn months.
Some of my favourites include dabbing or spraying essential oils around your home (what’s not to like about that) or getting a cat (they make great spider catchers but there’s no guarantee they won’t present you with a dead mouse every now and then!)
Good luck, whatever method you choose!
