What teenage cancer sufferer Stephen Sutton achieved in his relatively short life is more than most people will achieve in a lifetime.
The famous 19-year-old fundraiser sadly died on May 14, leaving behind a legacy to be extremely proud of. As I write this, Stephen’s JustGiving page is said to have reached £4 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust; but it’s not just the money he’s left behind, it’s the inspiration.
This young man was such a shining example to us all, and his courage and kindness will go on to help many others fight the battle against cancer.
Stephen had been diagnosed with cancer four years ago, but instead of rolling over and feeling sorry for himself (as I think many of us would have done) he decided to dedicate himself to helping others by raising awareness and money.
His mum Jane Sutton wrote on his Facebook page: “My heart is bursting with pride but breaking with pain for my courageous, selfless, inspirational son who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 14th May.
“The ongoing support and outpouring of love for Stephen will help greatly at this difficult time, in the same way as it helped Stephen throughout his journey. We all know he will never be forgotten, his spirit will live on, in all that he achieved and shared with so many.”
Looking at his page, it is obvious his journey has provided inspiration and comfort to many other young cancer patients as well as their families.
Thank you Stephen for reminding us all how to be better human beings; we are all humbled.
