The world is being taken over by little yellow men

The world is being taken over by tiny little characters – and no-one minds!

I’m talking, of course, about Lego Minifigures!

According to recent predictions, the number of these endearing little plastic people will outnumber humans by the year 2019.

Whatever generation you come from, you will no doubt have fond memories of playing with this popular toy. This cleverly simple range of bricks and accessories has spanned generations without ever losing its appeal.

There used to be a time when you weren’t considered famous until you had appeared on The Simpsons or had a waxwork made of you, but nowadays you haven’t “arrived” until you have had a Lego Minifigure made of you. In fact, I think it is about time Madame Tussauds made a waxwork model of a Lego Minifigure.

Let’s indulge in a few fun facts about this toy brand…

Did you know the number of bricks in the world today averages around 86 per person? Anyone who has children (or even just plenty of adults) will probably own a lot more than that!

There are Minifigures of everyone who is anyone from The Simpsons characters to the Queen and William Shakespeare.

According to the National Geographic, if you stood all the Minifigures made in one year in a line, they would reach roughly from London to Beijing and world’s tallest Lego tower is 28.7m high.

Two eight-stud bricks can be put together in 24 different ways. I’m off to try that out…
