You don’t need a facelift, just a few snails

Who fancies paying to have a few snails crawl across their face?

Believe it or not, this could be the latest beauty craze.

The Telegraph reported on the new live snail facial treatment this week, alongside a video of it taking place.

Reporter Danielle Demetriou said she was officially the first person in Japan to try out the unusual therapy, which involves the slimy insects crawling across your cheeks while you “relax”.

It’s not really clear exactly what the benefit of this snail facial is.

Danielle reported in the newspaper: “Snail number one feels cool and surprisingly heavy – and, to my alarm, slightly ticklish, as I detect a flicking sensation perhaps as the snail is tentatively checking out its new location on my face.

“It doesn’t take long for me to start to relax. The snails feel slow, heavy and cool – and, perhaps lulled into a false sense of security, I eventually feel comfortable enough to open my eyes.

“This, however, turns out to be a mistake: I soon learn that there is little in life more unsettling than spying the rearing tentacles of an approaching snail on your cheek out of the corner of your eye.”

When the snails have been removed from the face, their slime is massaged into your skin. This is followed by creams, a mask and some electrical pulses onto the skin. The reporter said her skin felt cooler and plumper after treatment.

I think I’ll stick to my skin feeling dull thank you very much, or maybe just give it a good wash and exfoliate!

I can’t see this taking off in a big way, but stranger things have happened I suppose.
