Walking in memory of wife

A great grandfather who has tunnel vision is planning on carrying out a 107-mile charity walk. Haverhill local Bob Cornwall is preparing for his walk with a three mile stroll everyday to break in his walking boots. The grandfather-of-six who has glaucoma decided to do the walk in memory of his beloved with of 59 years, Betty. He hopes that he will be able to raise hundreds of pounds for the International Glaucoma Association with his walk.

Release of CD to celebrate choir’s 90th anniversary

Bournemouth Male Voice Choir are celebrating their 90th anniversary this year by recreating a performance they did in 1922 on the steps of Bournemouth Town Hall. The choir are also celebrating the launch of their new CD, One Voice. The new album was recorded in St Ambrose Church, Westbourne, which the choir have used as their base for the last three years. A charitable hairdresser in Bournemouth has spoken of her work cutting the hair of the city’s homeless. Sue Scott, owner of Tandem Hair in Parley, volunteers at St Paul’s Shelter in Bournemouth every six weeks to trim and shave those who cannot afford to have it done elsewhere.

92 year old dentist carries Olympic torch

A 92-year-old Bournemouth dentist, who won a bronze at the British Empire Games in 1950, was the oldest Olympic torchbearer for the London 2012 games. Tony Chivers, who is the former chairman of the British Dental Association’s (BDA’s) Benevolent Fund took part in the Portland to Bournemouth leg of the Olympic flame’s journey towards the Olympic Stadium in London.
