Media students have seen their work installed at St James’ Park after being chosen by Newcastle United to spruce up the family area.
The nine students, all on their second year of the Newcastle College National Diploma in Interactive Media, were asked by the club to design illustrations and create an animation film for families to enjoy during match fixtures.
They created a set of 6ft characters celebrating goals, as well as a huge black and white scarf and some speech bubbles. The work has been installed in the family concourse in the north west area of the Milburn stand.
Student Chantel Gray, 20, said: “We did a lot of research on Newcastle United, the history of the club and everything involved, and with it being a family area I was concentrating mainly on child-friendly characters. It was incorporated with one of our college projects as well. We were graded on our designs and happily my grades were good.”
The group also produced a short 2D animation film that will be played in the main room during home matches.
Fellow designer Simon added: “It’s been a really positive experience. All the designs started off as hand-drawn designs, which were then digitalised by us. It makes me very, very proud to have our work on display at St James’ Park. I’ve been telling all my friends back at home and they’re all incredibly proud for me as well, which makes me feel even better. It’s all quite overwhelming.”
