Leading charity adopted by North East Hotel

The Toma Fund charity in the North East has been celebrating after receiving donations from one of the newest hotels in Newcastle.

The charity supports children, teenagers, young people and their families who have been affected by childhood cancer and the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport hotel has chosen the worthy cause as its adopted charity.

The hotel will be raising money for the charity with different fundraising activities and events throughout 2012. They hope to raise between £5,000 and £10,000 this year.

DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport Hotel manager, Seamus O’Hara, said: “When trying to choose an adopted charity we looked for something that would have a real impact on people living in the North East.  Many of the staff here at the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle Airport have families, so the Toma Fund seemed like the perfect choice all round.

“Everyone at the hotel has pledged their support throughout the coming months and we hope that everything we raise will help the charity to continue its good work across the region.”

The Toma Fund charity was created in memory of 15 year old Jordan Thompson who passed away in 2007 after battling Leukaemia. They have already managed to raise £400,000 for a special teenage cancer unit at Newcastle’s RVI hospital.

The charity works to raise money for children and young people from birth to 24 years who have been affected by childhood cancers.

Andrea Thompson who founded the Toma Fund in memory of her son Jordan said: “The Toma Fund has achieved so much over the past five years thanks to the support of fundraisers and organisations across the North East and Cumbria and every penny we receive is vital in allowing that much-needed work to continue.

“I am delighted that the DoubleTree by Hilton Newcastle International Airport hotel has now come on board and I look forward to working with the team there in the coming months.”
