Tait Walker accountants in Newcastle braved the terrible British weather to complete the Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours; raising £15,000 for charity.
They completed the challenge as part of their company’s pledge to raise £75,000 for North East charities to celebrate their firm’s 75th anniversary.
17 members of staff and friends from Tait Walker took part in the event that raised money for Macmillan Cancer Care. They have already raised £72,000 for local charities such as Great North Air Ambulance, Tiny Lives and St Oswald’s.
Scaling three mountains in two days certainly wasn’t easy and they suffered setbacks due to the swarms of midges up the mountains and worst rainfall seen in decades on Ben Nevis and Snowdon. They had to change their route in order to stay safe and ended up climbing Helvellyn in the Lake District instead of Scafell Pike.
Team member Simon Brown said: “The three peaks was an experience which none of us will forget in a hurry.
“We put in a considerable amount of training but none of us realised the full scale of the challenge until we saw the weather conditions we were going to have to contend with.
“At the foot of Mount Snowdon we could see people being airlifted off the top which didn’t help with the nerves!
“Despite the lack of sleep, soaking wet clothes and general feelings of exhaustion, the team helped each other through and I think everyone can genuinely say that they have lots of happy memories to take away with them.”
Managing partner at Tait Walker, David Arthur, said: “The team should be incredibly proud of themselves.”
