The Lansdowne Hotel in north Belfast closed suddenly and went into administration in May and has now been bought by UK hotel chain, Metro Inns.
The closure of the 25-bedroom hotel resulted in the loss of around 30 jobs and customers who had arranged functions at the hotel lost their deposits.
Metro Inns own hotels in Newcastle, Gloucester, Derby, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster, Teesside and Falkirk. They were formed in 2006 and are headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne.
In a statement, the new owners said: “Metro Inns hope to re-ignite the wonderful reputation this famous hotel enjoys and by engaging with the local community and its staff we hope to deliver a first class service to the people of Belfast and beyond.”
Jackie Kirkpatrick, the firm’s operations director said that they were very happy to welcome the latest addition to Metro Inn’s “rapidly expanding” portfolio. They said that the investment in the Northern Irish hotel was “a progressive step” in establishing its brand.
Many functions including weddings, engagement parties and First Holy Communion had been booked at the hotel which had to be rescheduled at short notice due to the hotel’s closure in May.
The Lansdowne Hotel’s previous owners were the Welcome Group, a family owned company which owned hotels and Chinese restaurants.
