Are you wearing a poppy?

Have you supported the Poppy Appeal this year?  The 2012 campaign hopes to break previous records with a target of £42 million.

I bought a poppy early this year.  A close friend’s son is currently serving in Afghanistan and it has had a real impact on us.  We think about him a lot and pray for his safe return.

November is the time of the year that we wear a red poppy to remember those who have sacrificed their lives for us during the wars.

This Sunday, November 11^th, is Remembrance Day.  The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11^th November 1918, to mark the end of World War One.

It was at 11am on 11^th November 1918 that the guns of the Western Front fell silent following more than four years continuous warfare.

Remembrance Day is a special day when we remember all the men and women killed during the two World Wars and also other conflicts.  On Sunday special services will be held at war memorials and churches throughout Britain.  At 11am on Remembrance Sunday a two-minute silence is observed.

Remembrance Day is also known as Poppy Day as it is traditional to wear an artificial poppy.  These are sold by the Royal British Legion, which is a charity dedicated to helping war veterans.

It is important we remember all those who have given their lives during wars and join together in hoping that all those still involved in conflicts throughout the world stay safe and return to their loved ones.
