Big Brother is not watching you – no one is

Participants in a reality TV show have left their year-long isolation to discover their program has not been on air for months.

The Channel 4 show Eden was only broadcast for four episodes before being axed due to low viewing figures. Those taking part were, however, still left in their remote Scottish location for the rest of the year.

Those taking part in Eden were without technology and contact with the outside world, so continued in their social experiment blissfully unaware of the fact that they were no longer being watched!

Filming continued with personal cameras and a small film crew of four, and Channel 4 says it will be showing highlights later in the year.

I’m not sure I would be impressed however, if I spent a year living in the wilderness for a show that no longer existed. I imagine part of the appeal was the personal challenge of living away from modern life for a year, but no doubt the TV coverage would have also played a big part in the decision for many of the contestants.

The 23 strangers were taken to a remote location in the west Highlands of Scotland. Their challenge was to become self-sufficient without any modern equipment or luxuries to help them.

Channel 4 told The Guardian: “The appeal of Eden is that it was a real experiment and when filming began we had no idea what the results would be and how those taking part would react to being isolated for months in a remote part of the British Isles. That’s why we did it and the story of their time, including the highs and the lows, will be shown later this year.”
