…maybe you could try persuading your boss to follow the latest trend for wacky office makeovers. ‘Cool’ offices are becoming more popular, with company owners convinced that their employees will be more inspired and creative if they work in fun surroundings.
They also believe they can help staff think more like their customers with a bit of clever decorating and some office gimmicks.
For example, Mind Candy, the creator of Moshi Monsters, hopes its treehouse/gingerbread house offices in London will get employees thinking on the same level as their child audience. Meanwhile Ticketmaster’s London offices have a slide, table football, jukebox and pinball machines.
Google recently suggested it would be including a climbing wall, swimming pool and rooftop running track in its new UK headquarters, while Apple is planning a spaceship-style building in California.
This trend is not completely exclusive to workplaces; I came across some great household ideas recently. One was for a dining table that turns into a pool table and another was for a hammock that you can hang over your stairs.
You can also get a tray of sand to sit under your workdesk to wiggle your toes in while typing, or a spiral staircase with a slide attached to the side for that big kid in you!
So come on everyone, let’s try getting this trend to catch on. Go and ask your boss for a spacehopper and a bowl of sweets on your desk – dare you!
