It’s been a week of fond, or not so fond, farewells. And, as a result, lots of protesting and prostrating from heartbroken music and showbiz fans who have not taken the news well.
Jeremy Clarkson was dropped by the BBC a fortnight after a ‘fracas’ involving a hot dinner and an alleged punch. And One Direction became minus one when Zayn Malik handed in his notice in order to enjoy the quieter life of a ‘normal 22-year-old’.
The response to both events has been phenomenal. It’s getting to the point where helplines may have to be set up to counsel forlorn fans through their loss. And of course social media has also enabled the enraged to get the knives out and stick blame to just about anyone, other than the stars themselves of course.
But while this all goes on, what of Clarkson and Malik? Well, according to sources, television networks from across the globe have been lining up to sign up the hapless motor-mouth and his slightly risky habits. And if Malik wants to live up to his publicised promise, well perhaps you’ll find him down the job centre like so many other 22-year-old men looking for work.
Or maybe, just maybe, (and I kind of hope this is what happens) the two will combine and form the next big thing – Pop Gear anyone?
