Charitable Garage Boost Donations

A charitable garage in Newcastle has given an incredible boost to a South Tyneside charity with a raffle donation that has amassed them £10,000.

Vic Young Ltd, which is based in Newcastle Road, South Shields, donated a new Nissan Micra to be raffled off to raise funds for the St Clare’s Hospice in Primrose Terrace, Jarrow.

10,000 tickets were sold throughout the area and at £1 each, the raffle managed to raise an amazing £10, 000 for the charity’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The car was won by couple Peter Irving, 63, and Margaret Lines, 77 who bought ten tickets for the raffle.

Margaret said: “Peter and I are both big supporters of St Clare’s, and bought 10 tickets for the raffle.

“You don’t expect to win and usually when we enter the raffle, I just put the tickets away in a draw. But for some reason, I kept them on the mantlepiece this time, so I knew just where to look when we found out we had won.

“We have been looking to get a new car, so it is a great start to the year.”

Vic Young, who has run the Nissan dealership for over 40 years, said: “I have been supporting St Clare’s since 1987, and it was a pleasure to be able to support the hospice on their 25th anniversary.”

This is the second car that Vic Young Ltd has provided to St Clare’s to be raffled.

Mr Young is one of the charity’s longest standing supporters and has previously handed over a van which is used for collection of donations, two subsidised box vans and a minibus.

A spokeswoman from St Clare’s Hospice said: “We sold raffle tickets in all our shops and at our charity events, with Vic Young also selling some.

“We sold 10,000 tickets at £1 each. It is a fantastic amount.”
