Jesmond Dene House, one of the most upmarket hotels in Newcastle and the North East has been awarded one of the tourist industry’s most prestigious awards. The hotel has been given a César award by the Good Hotel Guide 2012. It is the most recent prize for the luxurious hotel which was opened in 2005 by Michelin Award-winning chef Terry Laybourne and developer Peter Candler. It is located next to one of Newcastle’s largest green spaces.

The Lansdowne Hotel in north Belfast closed suddenly and went into administration in May and has now been bought by UK hotel chain, Metro Inns. The closure of the 25-bedroom hotel resulted in the loss of around 30 jobs and customers who had arranged functions at the hotel lost their deposits. Metro Inns own hotels in Newcastle, Gloucester, Derby, Manchester, Liverpool, Doncaster, Teesside and Falkirk. They were formed in 2006 and are headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne.
